Sample Quest 2 - Tekno Tekno

November 28th, 2008

We did it again. This time with even less samples. At first, here’s my result:

The most difficult part to me this time was making bass and lead sounds, as the original samples mostly consisted of drums and stuff. Here are all of them in a 13 seconds mp3 file (low quality):

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

The electric guitar like sounds are made out of the bassdrum with some heavy distorion and multiple snippets of the sample layered, looped and detuned.
Everything still needs some editing, but I can’t hear it any more for the moment…

Mad Soundchip

November 17th, 2008

I played around with NI Massive’s Feedback feature and got some pretty dirty but interesting results. If you’re interestet in the techniques, I can recommend this video.

All sounds came out of one Massive instance playing this very simple midi clip:

Results of a strange day…

November 15th, 2008

After sleeping almost the whole day, I managed to sequence a track I started working on some time ago:

Furthermore I added a page where you can listen to some of my recent tracks. I’d be glad to read some comments on them.

My DIY Drum Controller

November 10th, 2008

Hey, several months ago I started building a drum controller based on the arduino development platform (arduino.cc). I use piezo elements to detect hits on silicon pads and leds to provide visual feedback. The concept is inspired by monome.org and if everything is going well i’ll think about building a 8×8 pad controller.

It turned out that one of the hardest parts is building the pads. After a lot of search for an apropriate material, I decided to use a translucent two component silicon and add some white pigment. Here are some images of the process:

Unfortunately the red glow doesn’t come out as smooth on the photo as it is in reality… I’m pretty happy with the result! The software on the computer side is written in processing (processing.org).

If anyone is interested in seeing the code or likes to know something about the circuts, feel free to ask!

Sample Quest 1

I did an experiment with some friends. Each of us tried to produce a song with the same, very limited amount of samples. Here’s my result:
